No, Single White Female is not based on a true story. However, it was loosely inspired by the novel “SWF Seeks Same” by John Lutz.

Hedy shoots Allie in the shoulder, chases her, and seemingly strangles her to death in the elevator. Hedy plans to dispose of the body in the basem*nt incinerator, but Allie recovers and escapes. Allie manages to stab Hedy in the back with a screwdriver, and Hedy dies in front of her.

Having recently split from fiancé Sam Rawson (Steven Weber), Allison Jones (Bridget Fonda) welcomes new roommate Hedra Carlson (Jennifer Jason Leigh).
